1. Shower Mixer with Fastflow leaking under handle
Check that the water pressure is below 500kPa at all times? If not, install Pressure Limiting Valve and Cold Water Expansion Valve. (The cartridge seal may have been displaced by high pressure) Clean and check cartridge seal, re-fit or replace cartridge.
Do not plug the outlet when hydrostatically pressure testing a new installation, as this may damage the ceramic cartridge.
Are line strainers installed on both hot and cold supplies? If not, fit line strainers and new cartridge. The cartridge may have been damaged by grit or debris.
2. Shower Mixer with Fastflow and the Shower Rose is dripping
Are line strainers installed on hot and cold supplies? If not, fit line strainers and new cartridge. Ceramic cartridge may be damaged by grit or debris.
Check pressure is below 500kPa at all times? If not, install Pressure Limiting Valve and/or Cold Water Expansion Valve. Clean & check cartridge seal or replace cartridge. Cartridge seal has been displaced by high pressure.
3. Shower Mixer with FastFlow is sensitive to adjust
Is handle near 8 o’clock position during 40°C shower? This is not necessarily true. It may be for Auckland but Invercargill in the winter may have a different position – all due to water temperature – general statement may not cover all instances. Check for partially blocked hose. Whilst running, remove hose and re-check temperature at elbow. If temperature rises, change hose or hand-piece. Also check if any flow restrictors are fitted – not suitable for unequal pressure installations
Is hot water temperature at rose greater than 55°C ? If not, turn up cylinder or TLV to 55°C or more.
Are hot and cold flow rates approximately equal? If not, check correct jet is installed. Is handle near 4 o’clock position during 40°C shower? Same for this…I can see what you are trying to do, but these positions don’t necessarily work for all installations. Maybe talk about the handle being along way towards cold Insufficient cold pressure. Replace Red jet with blue jet to balance flow or remove blue jet to balance flow. Also check for debris on the jet. This is evident when the customer reports a sudden handle position change. Remove Jet and clean.
4. Shower goes cold after short use (especially in combination with a slide shower)
Remove hose from elbow whilst running and check for rise in water temperature. Change hose around (end for end), or replace hose. Water is passing around inner hose, restricting flow, reversing the flow of water through the hose normally solves the problem.
5. Shower Mixer with Fastflow Important Information
Pressure
Minimum equal pressure = 35kPa
If supply exceeds 500kPa a pressure limiting valve must be installed
Un-equal pressure:
Hot minimum = 35kPa
Cold = 300 – 400kPa use blue jet to increase cold flow
Cold = 400 – 1000kPa use red jet to restrict cold flow
Temperature
Cold = 5 - 20°C
Hot = 55 - 80°C
Un-equal pressure requires 450mm of straight pipe after the mixer for, without any flow restrictions, i.e. narrow elbows.
Single Lever Mixer Tips & Tricks
Single Lever - Mixer leaking under handle
Check that the barrel or cartridge is not loose. Can the barrel be tightened clockwise by hand without stiffening the spout?
Check pressure is below 1000kPa at all times. If not, install Pressure Limiting Valve or Cold Water Expansion valve. Clean and check cartridge seal or replace cartridge.
Are line strainers installed on hot and cold supplies? If not, fit line strainers and new cartridge.
NEFA Temperature Limiting valves (TLV’s) Tips & Tricks
Nefa Products
1. Temperature has gone cool Is valve inlet temperature is above 65°C? If not, check water heater temperature.
Are line strainers installed on hot and cold supplies? If not, fit line strainers.
Clean & check valve member. If valve is dated after February '95, the kit #782004 is available.
2. Temperature fluctuates or knocking noise in valve. Valve is sticking. Clean & lubricate the valve member, or if the valve is dated after Feb.'95, replace valve member with #782004 kit.
3. Nefa NTLV Information:
Pressure
Minimum equal pressure = 35kPa
Maximum pressure = 1000kPa
Flowrate at 35kPa = 20l/m – this is 35kPa at the valve – we recommend valves are installed as low as possible on 35kPa installations
Temperature
Cold = 5 - 20°C
Hot = 65 - 80°C
